For four decades, Epiphany has gathered every Sunday in this corner of Chantilly. We are a congregation committed to encountering God through beautiful worship and believing prayer, to building a multi-generational congregation that loves children and families, and to equipping every member to publicly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Each week our rector, Fr. Peter, writes a short letter to the parish — sometimes a reflection on the coming Sunday's readings, sometimes a pastoral note, sometimes a story of where God has shown up among us. At Epiphany, "ministry" isn't a department — it's everyone, doing what we can with what we have. That looks like packing food for kids at Coates Elementary, leading worship at Chantilly Heights memory care center, teaching Sunday school, praying through the congregational prayer line, or supporting our partners in Sudan, Belgium, Uganda and many other places around the world.

What is Church of the Epiphany?

Church of the Epiphany is an Anglican congregation in Chantilly, Virginia, gathering for worship since 1986. We are part of the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic and the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), and we worship using the 2019 Book of Common Prayer. Our name “Epiphany” means appearance — the appearance of God in Jesus Christ — and that’s what we gather every Sunday to encounter.

What time are services on Sunday?

Sunday Holy Communion is celebrated at 8:00am (a quieter, traditional service) and 10:30am (with music, livestreamed on YouTube). On Wednesdays we hold a Simple Eucharist at noon, and Morning Prayer is offered at 9:00am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Visitors are welcome at any service.

I've never been to an Anglican service. What should I expect?

Expect a service of about 75 minutes that follows a printed bulletin, so you can follow along easily even on a first visit. You’ll hear Scripture read aloud, sing hymns, listen to a roughly 20-minute sermon, and share in Holy Communion. There’s no dress code, you won’t be asked to introduce yourself, and you’ll be welcomed without being singled out.

Who can receive Holy Communion at Epiphany?

All baptized and believing Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion at Epiphany — you don’t need to be Anglican, a member, or confirmed at our church. If it is better for you not to receive you are warmly invited to come forward for a prayer of blessing instead. Simply cross your arms over your chest at the rail and the priest will pray for you.

What's the difference between Anglican and Episcopal?

Both traditions trace their roots to the Church of England, but they are now separate North American churches with different emphases. Church of the Epiphany is part of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), formed in 2009 to continue historic Anglican faith and worship — the authority of Scripture, the historic creeds, and the Book of Common Prayer.

What do Anglicans Believe?

Anglican Christians believe that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We trust the Bible as the inspired Word of God. Our faith is summarized in the Apostles and Nicene Creeds and the councils of the early church. At Epiphany, we look to the Bible as it is explained in our catechism, “To Be a Christian,” and the Book of Common Prayer to shape our doctrine and teaching.

I love to come here because it is biblical based and the people form a strong community or body of Christ. I come with my mother and my two children who are involved in Sunday school and youth group. They have made very good friends and they enjoy spending time together after the service and in other activities. Our prayer ministry is very committed, we support missionaries and help in the community. I personally like the program “Hot Meals” where we cook for the homeless in Fairfax County. Also, the music is wonderful. The music director is an excellent organist and piano player and he also directs the choir. We have a handbells ensemble and a more contemporary music band.

We have always been known for our gifts of hospitality and generous support of our congregation and our neighbors.  I enjoy Father Peter's and Mother Pamela's sermons that help us see God's love, mercy and grace through the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
